style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"3193\" data-end=\"3354\">It\u2019s often described as\u00a0<em data-start=\"3217\" data-end=\"3229\">confidence<\/em>,\u00a0<em data-start=\"3231\" data-end=\"3241\">gravitas<\/em>, or\u00a0<em data-start=\"3246\" data-end=\"3267\">commanding the room<\/em>.<br data-start=\"3268\" data-end=\"3271\" \/>Yet behind closed doors, many highly accomplished leaders ask me the same question:<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"3356\" data-end=\"3418\"><strong data-start=\"3356\" data-end=\"3418\">\u201cWhy do I feel less competent than what\u2019s expected of me?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"3420\" data-end=\"3515\">This question doesn\u2019t come from lack of skill.<br data-start=\"3466\" data-end=\"3469\" \/>It comes from a broken definition of presence.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"3517\" data-end=\"3556\">Let\u2019s dismantle the three biggest lies.<\/h3>\n<h2 data-start=\"3563\" data-end=\"3602\">\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2 data-start=\"3563\" data-end=\"3602\"><strong>Lie #1: Presence Means Confidence<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"3604\" data-end=\"3681\">We\u2019ve been conditioned to believe that visible confidence equals credibility.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"3683\" data-end=\"3788\">So when self-doubt appears\u2014especially in new roles or high-stakes moments\u2014leaders assume they\u2019re failing.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"3790\" data-end=\"3862\">But confidence is not the foundation of presence.<br data-start=\"3839\" data-end=\"3842\" \/><strong data-start=\"3842\" data-end=\"3862\">Groundedness is.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"3864\" data-end=\"4005\">The leaders with the strongest presence don\u2019t rush to prove themselves.<br data-start=\"3935\" data-end=\"3938\" \/>They pause.<br data-start=\"3949\" data-end=\"3952\" \/>They listen.<br data-start=\"3964\" data-end=\"3967\" \/>They choose their words intentionally.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4007\" data-end=\"4061\">Presence isn\u2019t loud certainty.<br data-start=\"4037\" data-end=\"4040\" \/>It\u2019s inner stability.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4063\" data-end=\"4168\">And paradoxically, when leaders stop trying to\u00a0<em data-start=\"4110\" data-end=\"4118\">appear<\/em>\u00a0confident, they often become far more compelling.<\/h3>\n<h2 data-start=\"4175\" data-end=\"4213\">\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2 data-start=\"4175\" data-end=\"4213\"><strong>Lie #2: Presence Means Certainty<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4215\" data-end=\"4279\">In complex, fast-moving systems, certainty is often an illusion.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4281\" data-end=\"4360\">Yet many leaders feel pressure to have answers before clarity is even possible.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4362\" data-end=\"4459\">This is where imposter syndrome thrives\u2014because uncertainty becomes internalized as incompetence.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4461\" data-end=\"4504\">But mature leadership presence sounds like:<\/h3>\n<h3>* \u201cThis is complex.\u201d<\/h3>\n<h3>* \u201cWe\u2019re learning.\u201d<\/h3>\n<h3>* \u201cLet\u2019s figure this out together.\u201d<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4583\" data-end=\"4691\">People don\u2019t trust leaders who know everything.<br data-start=\"4630\" data-end=\"4633\" \/>They trust leaders who can\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4660\" data-end=\"4690\">think clearly in ambiguity<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<h2 data-start=\"4698\" data-end=\"4734\">\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2 data-start=\"4698\" data-end=\"4734\"><strong>Lie #3: Presence Means Control<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4736\" data-end=\"4793\">Control has been confused with strength for far too long.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4795\" data-end=\"4872\">Control over emotions.<br data-start=\"4817\" data-end=\"4820\" \/>Control over conversations.<br data-start=\"4847\" data-end=\"4850\" \/>Control over outcomes.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4874\" data-end=\"4942\">But real presence is not about domination\u2014it\u2019s about\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4927\" data-end=\"4941\">regulation<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"4944\" data-end=\"4975\">Leaders with true presence can:<\/h3>\n<h3>* Hold emotional tension without reacting<\/h3>\n<h3>* Stay open under pressure<\/h3>\n<h3>* Allow discomfort without shutting down<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"5093\" data-end=\"5180\">This creates psychological safety.<br data-start=\"5127\" data-end=\"5130\" \/>And safety\u2014not control\u2014is what drives performance.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h2 data-start=\"5333\" data-end=\"5347\">Permission to:<\/h3>\n<h3>* Be human<\/h3>\n<h3>* Be reflective<\/h3>\n<h3>* Be uncertain and still lead<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"5412\" data-end=\"5539\"><strong>When leadership presence is redefined as\u00a0<em data-start=\"5453\" data-end=\"5492\">being real, regulated, and relational<\/em>, the confidence gap begins to close naturally.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"5546\" data-end=\"5584\"><strong>Reflective Questions for Leaders<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" data-start=\"5586\" data-end=\"5617\">Take a moment and ask yourself:<\/h3>\n<h3>* What outdated belief about presence am I still carrying?<\/h3>\n<h3>* Where am I over-performing instead of being authentic?<\/h3>\n<h3>* How might my leadership shift if presence meant inner alignment rather than external approval?<\/h3>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight:
