Some will resist change. Some will even talk behind your back.<\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"3898\" data-end=\"3974\"><strong data-start=\"3898\" data-end=\"3972\">But if you\u2019re making the right decisions, you can\u2019t let that stop you.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"3976\" data-end=\"4231\">Too many leaders fall into the <strong data-start=\"4007\" data-end=\"4027\">likeability trap<\/strong>\u2014believing that being seen as \u201cnice\u201d or \u201caccommodating\u201d will make them effective. <strong data-start=\"4109\" data-end=\"4122\">It won\u2019t.<\/strong> In fact, research shows that when leaders focus on approval over impact, their effectiveness <strong data-start=\"4216\" data-end=\"4228\">plummets<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<h2 data-start=\"4233\" data-end=\"4302\"><strong data-start=\"4237\" data-end=\"4300\">The Research: People-Pleasing Leaders Make Weaker Decisions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 data-start=\"4304\" data-end=\"4605\">A <strong data-start=\"4306\" data-end=\"4333\">Harvard Business Review<\/strong> study found that <strong data-start=\"4351\" data-end=\"4395\">leaders who prioritize approval tend to:<\/strong><br data-start=\"4395\" data-end=\"4398\" \/>* <strong data-start=\"4401\" data-end=\"4429\">Make risk-averse choices<\/strong> that lead to stagnation.<br data-start=\"4454\" data-end=\"4457\" \/>* <strong data-start=\"4460\" data-end=\"4507\">Avoid necessary but difficult conversations<\/strong> (such as giving tough feedback).<br data-start=\"4540\" data-end=\"4543\" \/>* <strong data-start=\"4546\" data-end=\"4582\">Struggle with setting boundaries<\/strong>, leading to burnout.<\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"4607\" data-end=\"4752\">If you\u2019re trying to be liked by everyone, you\u2019re <strong data-start=\"4659\" data-end=\"4749\">probably saying \u201cyes\u201d too often, compromising too much, and avoiding necessary changes<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<h2 data-start=\"4754\" data-end=\"4810\"><strong data-start=\"4758\" data-end=\"4808\">Examples: The Leaders Who Made the Tough Calls<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3 data-start=\"4812\" data-end=\"5002\"><strong data-start=\"4815\" data-end=\"4845\">&#8211; Satya Nadella (Microsoft):<\/strong> He disrupted Microsoft\u2019s rigid, bureaucratic culture, introducing a <strong data-start=\"4914\" data-end=\"4951\">more open, agile leadership style<\/strong>. Some resisted\u2014but today, Microsoft is thriving.<\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"5004\" data-end=\"5204\">&#8211; \u00a0<strong data-start=\"5007\" data-end=\"5033\">Indra Nooyi (PepsiCo):<\/strong> She took a <strong data-start=\"5045\" data-end=\"5061\">massive risk<\/strong> by shifting Pepsi\u2019s focus from sugary drinks to healthier options. It wasn\u2019t a popular move\u2014but it positioned PepsiCo for long-term success.<\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"5206\" data-end=\"5369\">&#8211; <strong data-start=\"5209\" data-end=\"5232\">Steve Jobs (Apple):<\/strong> He was <em data-start=\"5240\" data-end=\"5245\">not<\/em> known for being universally liked.
